If you took a straw poll of people’s associations with gingham, you’d likely arrive at picnics and school uniforms. Yet this happy print has had a makeover for summer – we are in the era of gingham for grown ups, Blog Reader.
This energetic, zingy print can be found in modern, jumbo squares (my dress here is Studio Nicholson at Shop Pyramid); black and white (Diane Von Furstenberg championed sleek, chessboard silhouettes this season); and dainty pastel palettes (see Carven lan Altuzarra). If you can cast aside the table cloth associations, gingham possesses an innate sexiness whilst simultaneously being that little bit retro-rebellious. You just need to think like Bardot and opt for a full skirt or dress, or go for a slick and fitted style and you’re all set for breezy summer fun.
